Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater WashingtonMonte Jade Greater Washington DC, and The Hopkins Club for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, will jointly present an online discussion on Intellectual Property (IP) strategies for AI startup companies at 8 PM EDT on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the two most critical issues for AI entrepreneurs—choosing the right direction and timing—through a comprehensive analysis of the AI industry, trends, products, and more from an investment perspective. The discussion will guide innovators on how to develop a robust IP strategy for their AI startups, covering recent changes in IP law and current trends affecting AI businesses. Entrepreneurs, innovators, and startup founders will benefit greatly from the discussion. Key topics of the lecture include:

Speaker Information:
Dr. Ran He is a practicing attorney in New York, California, and Canada, with extensive experience in patent, IP, and financial litigation. He has successfully represented global pharmaceutical companies, Nasdaq-listed companies, Chinese state-owned enterprises, and other notable clients in complex business and IP disputes across North America. Dr. He specializes in providing consulting services to companies in the biotechnology, healthcare, and AI sectors. His expertise goes beyond legal representation to include strategic consulting for consulting firms, venture capital funds, and startups in both the U.S. and China, with a focus on IP strategy and innovation management. He is also passionate about advising and investing in AI companies, bringing a unique perspective to the intersection of technology, law, and business. Dr. He frequently speaks at leading industry conferences and teaches law at universities in Canada and business schools in Asia. Before becoming a lawyer, Dr. He earned a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and completed postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he conducted drug development research and authored over 15 research papers.

Dr. Mandy J. Song has nearly 20 years of experience in patent practice, including patent applications, client consulting, patent portfolio organization and transactions, patent litigation, 337 investigations at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). She has extensive experience in the fields of electrical, computer, and biomedical technologies. Mandy is a seasoned patent attorney who manages the development of large patent portfolios for multiple clients. She has personally drafted, filed, and reviewed thousands of patent applications submitted to the USPTO. Mandy regularly interviews inventors to disclose inventions, drafts new patent applications for various complex technologies, interviews patent examiners, and appeals final rejections to the PTAB. Since 2020, Mandy has been recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine. She was also selected as one of the 30 most influential women in IP in both 2019 and 2021. Mandy frequently speaks on U.S. patent practice, litigation, and PTAB procedures, as well as industry standards and related patent issues. She has served as an adjunct professor of legal writing at George Washington University Law School and has been invited to lecture on patent law at Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering. She is also a mentor for the PTAB Bar Association Committee.
